Hello everyone,

I am a new member of this forum and enjoy browsing through the website. I was told about it from a nice fellow I work with. I'm glad that I was able to chat with him and find out about this website.

My question is this. There are several versions of the Bible. Which one do I read? How do I know which one is more accurate or close to the original Bible that was written thousands of years ago?

I am wanted to read the Bible to try and understand Life a little better. As I experience more of Life and life lessons/learnings, the only conclusions I can come to is that Life is nothing but contradictions and questions.

There are no real answers because for every single person in this world there is a truth. No 2 people are living the same life so how can they both have the same Life answers and Life truths? My mind is always overflowing with these kinds of questions.

Hopefully this forum can help me to make sense of it all. Nontheless I want to and need to read the Bible. After seeing the Passion of the Christ I am wanted to experience it all from the beginning.

Much thanks.

Antonio.

Antonio, welcome. I think you will find this place interesting, and am looking foward to what we can learn from each other.

I understand what you mean. But there is a difficulty in it.

Roll with me, and let's see if we can pinpoint the issue. You say "There are no real answers because for every single person in this world there is a truth." Well, now my mind overflows with questions:

Isn't that statement an attempt at an answer? So, that would mean: the answer is that there are no real answers. But we can see immediately that this is a self-defeating statement.

It is like if I wrote, "I cannot write a word in English." Say what? Didn't I just write that in English?

So we submit that there are in fact answers, and that they are functions of questions. Let us take to the next question.

This is how. Let's say we are sharing a bowl of chips and salsa at a bar, facing each other at the table. I look at it and its shadow is facing the back and to the right. You look at it, and its shadow is facing foward and to the left. Are there therefore two different bowls? No, but we each have a different perspective on it This is explainable by where we are sitting in relationship to the bowl. It is still the same bowl. And we can discuss this one bowl, even though there are two of us (i.e. if I say, "don't hog the salsa," you would probably not need to ask, "the salsa of whose life experience?").

So also with truth. This is why we ask questions: because truth about reality CAN be known. Like this new person joy74 just pointed out, she (she?) asks lots of tough questions, because she knows the truth is tough and can take it. Cool.

So what did you think of the movie?

No translation is perfect, but I use New American Standard (pretty accurate), and the Message (not really accurate, but fun to read). And the original Hebrew and Greek sometimes.

God choose for you to be a man/woman and you choose to be a bible believing christian, study the history of the bible and it's content, then study it's content and at some point in time you may understand why God did not make you a slave to religian.
