This certainly bears repeating, so I drag it up from the bottom of the "end times" thread.

Here is the book I was speaking of. It really sheds a lot of light on the when of the "rapture". Don't "fly away" before you read it. Laughing

THE RAPTURE QUESTION ANSWERED--PLAIN AND SIMPLE
Robert Van Kampen, 1997

The second coming of Christ is often cloaked in confusion or clouded by debate, making it hard for christians to decide what is accurate. The truth of the matter is that Scripture is very clear on the judgment that will occur when Christ returns, the timing of that return and how Christ's return relates to other end-time events like the Great Tribulation. Van Kampen is also the author of the pre-wrath bestseller, The Sign.

Seriously, there is but one second coming. We cannot know the day or hour...but we were given the signs to pay attention to. I, like Otto... do not refer to this coming as a "rapture"...but the day of God's wrath....
the Day of the Lord.

Christ's Olivet Discourse in Matthew 24 gives a very clear picture of the timing of His one and only return. If you look at the following verses you will seethat the "elect" will go through the tribulation.

Matthew 24:21-22

21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. 22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.

96pack is right. The elect will continue to work in the fields during the tribulations. The elect will not ever see any flesh saved, but they will see souls being saved by God through them. The elect will never work for their salvation, but they will work out their salvation. It will be awesome to see rocks turned into children of God. What men cannot do, God will.

Those who continue to blame God for their sores and curse him and refuse to repent will perish and never see life. They die becuse of their own choice, by not turning to the only one who can save them, Jesus.

It's not really as neat and tidy as all that. There are also good points to be made about pre-trib rapturo.

Rev 3:10
Since you have kept my command to endure patiently, I will also keep you from the hour of trial that is going to come upon the whole world to test those who live on the earth.

And it is also logical to me, that some that aren't part of the body of Christ, if there were to be a pre-trib rap, could become part of the body of Christ - and therefore the chosen, during the trib and that's what that scripture could be saying.
(the same in Rev 13 & 14 when it's referring to "the saints")

1Thes. 1
10and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come.

1Thes 5
9For God did not appoint us to wrath,

But here is the main scripture:

2 Thes. 2
1 Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you, 2not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter

3Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, 4who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.
>That at least gives us a good indication of what to watch for.

So, whichever way you look at it - we know that there is no need to worry, because God will protect us.
