Am I allowed to pray direct to God, or do I have to pray to Jesus?
What is the verse where Jesus says He is God? I just wonder because if Jesus has gone back to being part of God now he has ascended into heaven, do we pray to his earthly incarnation as a human being or should we just pray to him and refer to him as God? Who do I visualise I am talking to when I pray? If I visualise who I think Jesus looked like, I could be wrong, and be directing my prayers not to him at all.....
Who do I direct my prayers to? I am sure everyone gets a different image of Jesus - who would be right? What do I think in my mind?
I'm sorry, I'm just really confused and feel stupid asking this to the Pastor of the church in person. _________________ Thanks for your time, Me ... |

Joy,
I can only tell you how I pray and hope that it helps in some way. Generally I find myself conversing with God the Father, but with Jesus never far away - although I believe in the Trinty I am also aware that the three persons are one. Therefore Im not sure I visualise, Jesus in particular everytime I pray, but I regulary find myself thanking God (Father) for the gift of Jesus and his atonement for us his children.
My 'connection' with God feels permanent and never really leaves me, I find I converse with him often at odd moments in the day, not necessarily at a set aside prayer time. I dont do well on set aside times, enjoying a more spontaneous relationship with him. Hes there when I need him is the important thing and that might be an hour in prayer, it might be just five minutes.
God is Good

Here are some scriptures to help u out. We can pray to both. In John we see that Jesus is telling us to pray in his name. And in Hebrews we see that because of Jesus' sacrafice we can now enter into God the Father's presence. We come to Father in the name of Jesus. In Timothy we see that Jesus is the only mediator between God and man. None can get to the Father except through the Son. I don't think I really visualize anyone when I pray. I tend to try to concentrate in the presence of God and the spirit. Hope that helped a little bit.
John 14: 13-14
13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
Hebrews 10:19-20
19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,
20 By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;
1 Timothy 2:5
5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; |
